DIRECTOR/PROJECTION DESIGNER/FILMMAKER/DRAMATURG

Yoav Segal is an award-winning theatremaker and filmmaker who works across a variety of different media. Yoav’s work has been seen at the National Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, the Eden Project, Stratford Circus, the BBC, Sky Arts, Wembley Stadium and a host of global film and music festivals. He was the winner of the ARTS FOUNDATION AWARD 2015 for ‘Video and Performance’.

In December 2015 Yoav was co-director, dramaturg and designer on George the Poet’s first one-man play - GEORGE AT THE NATIONAL (National Theatre).

Yoav’s recent scenic projection design work includes: VARMINTS directed by Sally Cookson (Sadlers Wells, Stratford Circus, UK tour); IN PROGRESS, created with Wang-Ramirez and the Olivier nominated Rocio Molina (Sadler’s Wells); CROW (Handspring UK, 2012 Cultural Olympiad). Yoav’s work has also been seen on tour with the award-winning beat-box artist REEPS ONE and behind the legendary DJ SHADOW. 

Yoav directed IRONS IN THE FIRE (Sky Arts / Sky 3D, 2014), which featured George the Poet and Idris Elba, and won a number of awards including Best International Short Doc at Urban Mediamakers Film Festival, Best 3D Documentary at 3D Stereo Media Film Festival, and a ‘Special Mention Award’ at the 3D Film and Music Fest Barcelona. Yoav was Development Producer on THE BRAIN WITH DAVID EAGLEMAN (PBS, BBC4) and has worked on a number of short films including CROW (ICA, the Tate Modern Turbine Hall, Encounters, London Short Film Festival, and international film festivals) and THE BATTLE OF CABLE STREET, which won DC Best HD film at DC Shorts and played at a range of top global film festivals. 

Yoav is also Creative Director of RIGHTSINFO – a social media project bringing human rights understanding to the public (winner of the Plain English Award 2015), and he curated a ‘youth engagement’ strand at the LONDON FESTIVAL OF EDUCATION 2015. Yoav also advises NGOs and charities on their creative output, and has directed global CSR film campaigns for blue-chip companies. He is a long-term key-volunteer at CRISIS and a visiting lecturer, and artist, at the UNIVERSITY OF SURREY.

Yoav studied ILLUSTRATION (BA Hons) at the University of the West of England, and PRODUCTION DESIGN under Terry Ackland Snow at Pinewood studio.
